DIY Remixed

Hey Everyone, so this is a remix of my so called  DIY project post that I made a couple of months ago, here is the link (DIY). Anyways, a week ago I was in American Apparel and saw a turquoise coloured sheer chiffon maxi skirt. I really loved it, but there was no way I was going to spend that kind of money on something that i was convinced that I could make. So, I set out to make my own, I found the basic instructions on a DIY blogger named A Pair and Spare blog page, here is her link (maxi skirt). I basically followed the same concept but modified it to suit my own needs. In the end after many episodes of frustration, and many attempts to give up, the end result came out great. However, I would like to give a big thank you to a co-worker who helped me out alot by finishing off the skirt for me. I was so upset because  when it came down to getting ready to sew the skirt, my sewing machine decided to stop working. Therefore, she saved me alot of hand stitching, which saved me alot of time. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I hope you guys enjoy the post  and like the finished product.

I used only 1 meter of fabric, you may need 2 meters to be on the safe side
Next,  lay out the fabric and  folded over the top of the fabric to fit the elastic band , and pin. Make sure that there is  enough space that you can feed that same elastic through. Use one of the long sides of the fabric to do this. Remove your elastic guide. Now  head to the sewing machine to sew the pinned area or hand stitch
After sewing the pinned area, add a saftey pin to one of  the ends of the elastic band that you have cut to fit your waist
feed the elastic band through and gather the fabric along the way as shown. Then sew together both ends of the elastic band, the back side of the skirt, and hem the botton. Then your done!!!
Here is the finished product, i'm wearing a black bodycon skirt underneath because the skirt is quite sheer. Total cost 15 dollars to make. Here is the orginal skirt from AA http://store.americanapparel.net/RSA0320.html

Wedding bells!!

Hey everyone, this is a new style post, but first I would like to send my congrads out to my friend Karen. Today was her big day, congrads again to karen and Jer. on their marriage! The ceremony was beautiful, and the bride was stunning. It was a small and cute semi formal wedding.
The dress and the belt that i wore to the wedding was thrifted, and was one of the items that i purchased on the "shopping trip" blogged on the previous post. The flowery detailing was what first caught my eye.

Outfit Information: dress and belt: thrifted

Shopping Day!!!

Ready, set, and shop!!! Hey everyone, i am back again with some wise words and some photos i took during an afternoon of shopping. A few days ago i went shopping with some girlfriends in downtown Toronto. It was fun and much needed. Oh, yes that is my friend,Abena in the turban. She has been featured on my blog before, here is the link: http://sincerelymissj.blogspot.com/2011/03/inspirational-wednesdays-abena.html

We walked so much that day, that once i got home it was straight to bed for me. Anyways, we mostly shopped on the streets  rather than the mall. We also went thrifting, which  i was excited to do  because this was my first time going with the "thrifting queen", Abena. It was so fun, and together we found alot of interesting goodies including this shiny green dress. Unfortunately, none of us brought the dress.

And yes of course, no good day could have ended without food. We found an extremely cheap place on Queen st. It was an Korean and Japanese restaurant . We were served appetizers that consisted of a small salad, miso soup, 2 other side dishes, then our main course pictured below for less than $11. Whoa!!!

So i leave you with some wise words, enjoy life because life is indeed too short. Also live it living and not just going through the actions. I see way too much sickness and death in my occupation to worry about little things. Until next time, love,

Sincerely Miss J
