TST: Denim on Denim saluting the 90s

My love for the 90's will never die. Athough I was not old enough to remember every single detail, I do know that I loved the variety of wholesome family sitcoms such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-air, Family Matters, and Full House. I learned many valuable life lessons that were reinforced by these shows; always share, always tell the truth, and your family always has your back! The 90's also brought amazing r&b and rap music, along with great rock bands that I still jam to even now. It also brought some pretty iconic dance moves and some hip fashion! This week's Thrift Style Thursday is nineties nostalgia and the first thing that came to mind was denim. Denim was huge in the nineties, from jean jackets, vests, mommy jeans, and overalls. With the warmer weather finally coming around, I decided to do the denim on denim look with my DIY boyfriend jean shorts and my favorite chambray shirt.  I love the masculine feel of this outfit and how comfortable boyfriend jeans are compared to daisy dukes.

Back to the Basics: The trench coat and stripes

Although the trench coat is considered by many to be a basic and essential item, I have never owned one until recently. Upon seeing this coat, I figured that I might add it to my closet and perhaps sneak at least some wear out of it before the weather becomes too warm to layer. This coat, particularly, is lightweight and less structured than other trench coats that initially caught my eye. Its only downside is its tendency to wrinkle (at the bottom when sitting), however it will do for the time being.

Today's outfit is rather basic but I enjoyed wearing it; ideal to wear on a day of errand-running. While the colour palette is not overly spring like or summery, the black and white with a neutral khaki colour serves to create a causal yet polished look.
Absence indeed does make the heart grow fonder. I have been on an unintentional mini-break from the blog. I missed it tremendously and I'm  happy to get back to posting. Unfortunately, last week was definitely a "workaholic" week--working endlessly and jumping from afternoon to night shifts, all while running around the city to attend numerous media events. Thanks for your support, guys. Hope you liked the post!

Until Next Time:
Sincerely Miss J

Neon Citrus: bright colored pants to brighten a foggy day

So, whose bright idea was it to shoot an outfit post in the middle of thick fog? I'll raise my hand to that. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has not been cooperating with me so I figured if you can't beat them, join them. I have been trying my best to find that hint of sunlight, but as you can see it's a no go! Although, it's probably the worst and most difficult weather to shoot anything in, there was something about the fog and dullness of the background that to me really brought out the brightness of the pants. Lately, I have been really letting my hair down and gravitating to bright things, and have come to realize that it’s a huge mood changer for me. When I wear something bright and vibrant I just hear Pharrell's 'Happy' song in my head, and have the urge to dance or skip around regardless of what's happening around me, it really makes any day go by faster when your in a pleasant mood.
Today’s Thrift Thursday theme is quirky and cute, which are probably the last words I would use to describe my personal style and my personality.Although I think quirky may describe my style a bit more than cute, it was still difficult to come up with a look. So this is what I thought quirky and cute was; bright colors, fun bold patterns, and a playful hair accessory to add that final touch of cute.

Hoped you enjoyed the post and that everyone’s enjoying their week, until next time
Sincerely Miss J

A hint of sunshine: bright maxi skirt

A hint of sunshine is exactly what I was thinking when I picked up this beautiful bright maxi skirt. With the onset of warmer temperatures, the sun shining, and the leaves on the trees coming back to life, it almost seemed like a waste to revert back to a neutral palette all Spring and Summer long. There are three items in my closet that are essential: black leather jackets, blazers and maxi skirts. I first announced my love for maxi skirts in this past post, here. Due to their versatility, comfort, modesty, freedom, and not having to worry about silky smooth legs all the time, I've come to love them. The interesting thing about this one is not only the colour but the two different types of pleats, from small at the top, making it fitted to larger at the bottom, making the skirt flare out a bit more.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day, and I'm wishing all the beautiful mothers and future mothers a happy belated Mother's Day.

Now that Spring has sprung, what's your go to item?
Hope you enjoyed the post, until next time

Sincerely Miss J

TST: A Dash of animal print

What a relief to be back on the blog and sharing a new post with you all! I had a amazing trip to Kentucky, even though I was sick most of the trip, boo!! The hospitality I received there was amazing and I will definitely be going back. I will say that the shopping there was, well, can I say "no comment" in terms of getting a good retail fix. However, there were a lot of Goodwill stores around so as an avid thrifter, no complaints here. I found this full skirt at one of the Goodwill stores down there and layered another tulle like skirt underneath it to add more fullness. I also had to get the skirt tailored to fit because the waist was too big. I would like to thank my awesome bestie for doing that for me, he did a great job! The small bag was another thrift find that I found at the same store.
Today's Thrift Thursday theme is animal print, and if you know me, you know my favorite animal print is leopard. Therefore, it was pretty easy to incorporate animal print into this outfit. Don't be afraid to play with prints and colour.
I hoped you enjoyed today's post!! I will be back very soon!!
What's your favorite animal print?
