TST: The Tailored Boho Chic

With good weather comes plenty of outdoor activities, including music festivals, such as the well known Coachella. If you have been following the many media outlets covering the event you may have seen some of the festival’s highlights and its fashion. You may have also spotted many celebrities and attendees rocking variations of the Boho or Hippie style. From fringed accents, floppy hats, floral print, floral crowns, kimonos and much more. For this week’s Thrift Style Thursday (TST) the theme is Boho Chic, which is a style that isn't limited to Summer outdoor festivals. This look is a spin on Boho Chic but in a more polished, sophisticated, and tailored way. This outfit can be worn on a Spring night out or other events. It plays on a couple of popular Spring and Summer trends, like the crop top and  peek-a-boo fabrics.
Now let’s talk about this skirt. I picked it up at my local thrift store, but you can find similar ones linked below. When I saw it, I did not know what to think, I loved the fact it was a maxi skirt, but I hated just about everything else about it. I thought, eww "flowers", "see through",and "black lace". However, there was something about it that made it difficult to put down so I brought it anyways. I certainly don't regret my decision! The necklace was from a clothing swap, which added that extra Boho glam!
There are loads of variations you can do here, to fit your personality and the particular event you're attending.
What do you think of the Boho Chic style? What are your favorite boho inspired items?

A fascination with Fascinators

fascinators

 1. $115 CAD  houseoffraser.co.uk // 2. $41 CAD modcloth.com // 3. $115 CAD debenhams.com

This post was inspired by the previous post, "Cocktail Hour", if you have not gotten a chance to read it, you can find it (here). It looks like the fascinator was a hit, through both blog and in person comments. I thought I would share with you a few that I've been currently drooling over. Fascinators, are decorative hair accessories usually worn to formal events such as weddings. They come in a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes and are often adorned with feathers, bows, lace, and various other materials. Some are more like hats, others headbands, and some are just clips. Often, when individuals think of fascinators, two words usual pop into mind "royal family", however, anyone can wear them. From the most flamboyant fashionista on a daily basis to the everyday individual looking to spice up their attire for a formal event, there is a fascinator for everyone. Why are they great? Well, when you find one that best represents an occasion and your personality it transforms a simple dress into something magical.
So, are you brave enough to rock some of these extreme hair accessories? Which one do you like best?

TST: Cocktail Hour

Although today's theme for Thrift Style Thursday is cocktail hour, in this outfit I feel like I'm doing more than cocktails but heading to the royal palace for some high tea or watching the horse races at the Kentucky derby--which, funny enough, is the occasion I created this outfit for. However, I thought I would share it with you all a bit early. When I think of the Kentucky Derby, I think horse racing, women in pretty cocktail dresses, big hats and fascinators. The big race starts on May 3rd, 2014 and I can hardly wait! Don't forget to stay connected on instagam because I will be sharing pictures! If there is anyone from Kentucky or anyone who has been to the Derby, please let me know how you liked it or if you have any tips for  a newbie!
The dress is an oldie but goodie from H&M, in a pastel/pale yellow colour,  and  works beautifully for Spring and Easter. The fascinator, is my favorite part of the outfit. I have been anxiously awaiting the perfect opportunity to wear it for a second time. I purchased it a year or more ago. The shoes are thrifted, so I may have cheated a little this week. If anyone is interested in joining Thrift Style Thursday, please email me. Next week will be boho chic!
I took a very short break to rest after finishing school for the year. It's crazy how exhausted finals can make you, but I will be back in a couple of days!
Happy Easter!
So what do you think? Will you be rocking a fascinator to your next cocktail party?
Outfit Information:
Fascinator: China Town
Dress: H&M (old)

TST: The Edgier Side: Grunge for a day

Grunge
Grunge
Grunge

Although it's Friday and not Thursday, I'm still going to post "Thrift Style Thursday" (TST) today. The theme this week was flashing back to the 90s with grunge style. I will admit that initially I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing, however, the idea quickly grew on me when I found out what it actually was. To be honest, I didn't even know what was considered "grunge", so I took some time to do a little research. I concluded that it's a lot of leather, plaid, and denim. Maybe?
For those of you who are not sure what thrift style Thursday is, it's a day where some other bloggers and I challenge ourselves to style a given theme with a thrifted item. The advantage is sparking creativity and sometimes adopting a style that you would not normally wear for a day. In this case the outfit came out great, but it's something I don't see myself wearing especially in the spring. I chose to wear heels with it, but a pair of converse type sneakers or milarty boots would also complete the look. Although, I think the look came out well, I will gladly return to my normal style of more colour, and patterns any day.
The sun is slowly but surely making it's way to Toronto, however it's still fairly cold. I'm still patiently waiting for an opportunity to wear shorts, skirts, and dresses and ditch the winter coat.

What do you think of the look, did I accomplish the grunge look?

Until Next Time,
Sincerely Miss J

Back to the Basics With a Hint of Sparkle

As you probably noticed, on this particular day the sun was not exactly "beaming". I decided, even with the cloudy forecast, cold weather, and the wind that I was going to share with you, an outfit that I call "back to the basics". It's causal with a twist. I decided to pair a beaded gold blazer and gold embellished pumps with a basic pair of jeans and a white bottom up shirt.
I'm also excited to announce that I'm almost done my second year of graduate school. One more exam to go, until I get my much needed break until Septemeber. Therefore, that  means more to come for this blog, so stay tuned. I wanted to also announce this because this year has been filled with many physical, emotional and spiritual struggles, that left me thinking, maybe I should just quit. However, I never did, and realized, that when you put your energy into working your butt off to make things better, it's possible to achieve many things regardless of the obstacles.I also wanted to thank you all for the support for the blog and this blog for being that creative outlet that got me through a lot of those rough times.

Until Next Time,
Sincerely Miss J

TST- Pretty in Pink: Pastel Pink

Pastel pink, floral

It's been a while since I've participated in "Thrift Style Thursday" (TST) and have missed some really cool themes, but I am excited to be back. For those of you who are new to the blog, thrift style Thursday is a day where some other bloggers and I challenge ourselves to style a given theme with a thrifted item. This week is pretty in pink, which happens to be a huge trend this season. I don’t always jump on every trend, but work with the ones that work for me. Trends are meant to be inspiring reference points to incorporate into your own lifestyle and styles.I know, "floral and pastels are not ground breaking for spring", as per the Devil Wears Prada movie, however they work so well for the season, so why ruin a good thing.
Today, is my version on how I stay pretty in pink, particularly pastel pink. I'm not at all a girly girl, but this structured pastel pink blazer is certainly my cup of tea. To celebrate the sun shining and warmer temperatures I decided to show a little bit of skin with this embellished crop top. I have worn this top before on the blog, see it here. The pants are old from H&M, and the heels are my new favourite item in my shoe collection. I have now come to realize that I can no longer can wear heels for long periods of time, and that my feet ain’t so pretty anymore. So, when I find something comfortable and stylish. I become obsessed with them.

Hope you like the outfit!!
