During the last few years blogging, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with some amazing people. When the wonderful people at Vlisco, one of the world's largest suppliers for wax prints contacted me with a challenge of styling their monochrome fabric, I was thrilled and jumped at the opportunity. The challenge was welcomed because of my love for wearing black and white. As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm still a color and print person but the classic and polished look of pairing black and white together makes me reach for it often. When most people think African wax fabric or Ankara fabric they often think of vibrant, and bold patterns so this fabric is a bit of a deviation from the norm. Here is how I styled a black and white monochrome patterned fabric and made it work for me.
I paired the dress with a simple black clutch and a simple black minimal heel with a touch of gold. The dress is perfect for the wedding season and that's exactly what I'm planning to wear it to.

I was tasked with making a 50s inspired piece. You can read the full Vlisco interview here. With pictures and fabric in hand, I set out to find a good seamstress here in Toronto. Using a friend's recommendation, I met Rosemond. She took my vision and brought it to life within a very short period of time.
My inspiration for the outfit was the pencil skirt dress inspired from the 50s. I loved how the pencil skirt dress had a higher waist line, was fitted to the body, had a high neck line, and was generally longer than most modern dresses. In the end I was very happy with how the dress came out. It also was an amazing experience being involved in the design concept and getting something custom made for me. The dress fits perfectly and I adore the print and fabric quality.
