When my husband and I took the time to complete our baby registry it was more involved than we initially thought.  It was overwhelming, intimidating, and  pretty time consuming.  However, we are grateful  that we reached out to registry experts, family and friends for help. I have partnered with buybuy BABY to create a post to help break down some things that we learned through the process of building our baby registry and give you 5 tips to consider when building your baby registry.

What is a baby registry?

A baby registry contains baby products and sometimes products for the parents-to-be that are chosen by you and your partner that you hope to receive. It provides a guide for those who are invited to your baby shower or simply want to give your baby a gift. It can be created at anytime but from experience the earlier it is started the better. Most baby registries can be updated at the physical store or online.

My husband and I originally created our baby registry at another store but moved it to buybuy BABY because of their large selection of inventory and amazing expert service from their registry consultants.  They also had other benefits such as price matching, great coupons, free announcement cards, a goody bag filled with free samples and great information, free in-store gift wrapping  and a hassle free return policy. Some of our friends and family don't live near a buybuy BABY store but they were able to purchase items for the registry online or at any of the Bed Bath & Beyond locations across Canada.

If you are stuck on some of the items that you can add to your registry, please see a full baby registry checklist here

5 tips to consider when building your baby registry:

1. Research: Baby gear is not one-size-fits-all, and it’s possible that certain products might work better with your lifestyle. Doing a bit of research will make sure your registry has items that you feel will be essential for the care of your baby and works well for your lifestyle.

2. Add both small and big ticket items at various price ranges: Not everyone can or wants to spend a lot of money on a gift.  Having a variety of price ranges gives flexibility to those purchasing the gift.

3. Don't think short term: Make sure to add non-newborn items that you may need when your baby is three months or older. Example: high chair, larger diapers

4. Don't be afraid to add non-conventional items: Don't be afraid to add  non- conventional items to your baby registry such as pregnancy and postpartum skin care items especially if this is not your first baby.

5. Seek advice and utilize it: Remember to seek advice and utilize it from registry experts and knowledgeable family and friends to help complete your registry. You do not have to try to complete it on your own.

Until Next Time
