Denim Romper

Today's post is going back to the basics and screams simplicity, which also happens to be the theme for this weeks Thrift Style Thursday challenge. Yes, Thursday is almost done but  I really wanted to participate since I've been missing in action.

 For this outfit, I decided to pull out this denim romper I brought years ago and revive it. I love the look of overalls but don't own any, so I decided to layer a crop top underneath the denim romper to give it the illusion of overalls.

I'm sure you have all noticed that I look completely different. I decided to change things up a bit and embrace my tight kinky curls instead of straight hair for the summer. I'm still getting use to it but I'm loving it so far.

Striped

I am sure we have all heard the saying "reduce, reuse, and recycle". This concept does not only apply to the environment, but should be applied to your closet as well. How many of us have heard once you post an outfit on any type of social media network, you can never wear it again? Well, I'm here to tell you that you can! Funny enough, nothing in this outfit is new and everything  has been featured on the blog before. The dress here, and the heels here are some examples of how items can be utilized multiple times.With a little creativity, vision and confidence, you will always find some way to live within your means and look stylish without having to constantly buy something new.

The striped dress is from Dynamite which I purchased on sale months ago. However, I have worn it so many times and it never gets old. I decided to pair the black and white combo with red! Red, black and white is such a classic combination.

Father's Day is quickly approaching and if your anything like me your still scratching your head wondering what to get for your father or any other special gentlemen in your life. If your dad is anything like mine, then this process should be fairly easy.All my dad needs is a cold refreshing beverage, a tv, and silence as he watches the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In a perfect world my siblings and I would be flying  him to Brazil to watch it live, however, that's not possible so we will treat him to an awesome day.

The Short Suit

 How I love suits! Whether they are pant suits, short suits, skirt suits, patterned or solid, I love them all!  Therefore, it's no surprise that  I chose to pair this white short suit with pastels, making this outfit right on trend for the spring/summer months. Although, it was a beautiful day it was still a bit cool, so the blazer came in handle.

Tip: You don't have to buy a whole suit, find separate pieces in your closet and match to create the suited combination.

Designer Adoration: Kaela Kay SS14 collection by Catherine Addai

Ankara prints, also known as Dutch wax prints are bold, colorful and come in various over sized patterned fabrics.  These vibrant fabrics have been popular in many parts of Africa , especially in West Africa since the 19th century and are still used to make many traditional clothing items. Ankara and other ethnic prints have recently found mainstream popularity in the international fashion industry. They are now popping up in various places such as in  major department stores to high profile runways at prestigious fashion weeks around the world. 

 The Kaela Kay brand remixes traditional Ankara prints into modern clothing that women anywhere can easily incorporate into their wardrobe.The designer herself is also from the Toronto surrendering area.

 From seeing the collection, I can't help but drool over most of the pieces and only hope that one day I can share my adoration for her designs with her in person. Please take a look below at some of her gorgeous pieces that made my heart skip a beat.

 
As a individual of West African ancestry and seeing these fabrics repeatedly growing up, I will openly admit that I lost interest and appreciation for them. However, the Kaela Kay SS14 collection has reinvigorated my love for Ankara print. What I love about the collection is the beautiful silhouettes of the pieces, the mixing of Ankara prints with geometrical patterns and different fabrics, and lastly all the colors. How beautiful would these prints be for the summer weather? The pieces also come in various sizes from US2 to US14.

TST: Denim on Denim saluting the 90s

My love for the 90's will never die. Athough I was not old enough to remember every single detail, I do know that I loved the variety of wholesome family sitcoms such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-air, Family Matters, and Full House. I learned many valuable life lessons that were reinforced by these shows; always share, always tell the truth, and your family always has your back! The 90's also brought amazing r&b and rap music, along with great rock bands that I still jam to even now. It also brought some pretty iconic dance moves and some hip fashion! This week's Thrift Style Thursday is nineties nostalgia and the first thing that came to mind was denim. Denim was huge in the nineties, from jean jackets, vests, mommy jeans, and overalls. With the warmer weather finally coming around, I decided to do the denim on denim look with my DIY boyfriend jean shorts and my favorite chambray shirt.  I love the masculine feel of this outfit and how comfortable boyfriend jeans are compared to daisy dukes.
